   National Institute of Health of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia (NIH MH RA) was founded in 1963 and originally had therapeutic, surgical, sanitary-hygienic profile departments. It carried out specialized, general and thematic advanced medical studies/training courses of physicians from all the Soviet Union with all basic specializations.
Thereafter, during the years of independence (after ‘90s) the Institute worked in difficult conditions. It was necessary not only to build right tactics for survival, but also to develop a sustainable development strategy. During its development, the institute became not only scientific-research and treatment-counseling center with high-qualified specialists, but also educational, where annually more than 2000 residents studied and up to 4000 physicians and nurses of different levels had undergone advanced medical training. The medical-counseling work of NIH includes timely diagnostics; monitoring of health status; consultation with the doctors in all regions of the republic; treatment of patients, operations; new approaches, based on the principles of traditional and evidential medicine, post-discharge adjustment or rehabilitation of patients.
NIH MH RA has established itself as a powerful state scientific- medical- educational- and methodical center, unique in its kind in the health care system of the Republic of Armenia and provides leadership and direction to programs designed to improve the health of the Nation by conducting and supporting research. Its activity is multifaceted, it is defined by the Institute Charter, guided and monitored by Academic Council and coordinated by educational-methodical and scientific councils. The Institute library serves as a resource center for providing information to all spheres of the Institute activities: organizational, scientific-research, educational, clinical-consulting.
